Amanda Brugel
Pointe Claire in Montreal's West Island is a tiny quiet town. The West Island, to those who are unfamiliar with it, is a large region that runs from Lachine to the west. Amanda Brugel's birthplace is frequently cited, however her short visit to the West Island was not. Brugel grew up in Courtice near Oshawa Ontario. She wanted to become a professional dancer but because of a huge expansion, she surpassed the dance partners she had. In an interview with Toronto Star, she confessed that "In heels I'm 6 feet, 1 inch." Once I was bigger than any male partner, I stopped. Bruce was among the former dancers who turned into acting. Her teacher from high school was what pushed her to take the next step. The teacher who suggested she pursue a role for the school's annual production. After a few auditions the role, she was chosen as the main character of Anne of Green Gables. It led to the award of a Fine Arts Talent Scholarship at York University where she attended the Theatre Program and graduated with an Associate in Fine Arts degree in 2000. Over the last 20 years, Brugel's work been seen on the small and big screen. She gained the most fame when she was offered the character of Rita on the award-winning TV show The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel played the role of Rita in the Handmaid's Tale the series filming over 10 years ago.
